Manager was fantastic. I was with them quite some time ago working on a plant start-up in Mexico, but they took good care of those of us who were traveling for long stints away from home.

Headed South

Good company to work for but business was moving South of the Border. By the time I had joined the team, much of decision to move manufacturing to Mexico had been made. Union Facility

Did ones job, mine own business

In different areas of the plant some people worked extremely hard and in dangerous areas of the plant. You learned different position in the plant. Management were just like people, some inapt, some were pleasant, some were cruel.

Pros

Make as much money as one need if you applied yourself

Cons

Safety was a big issue. Cancer, most horrible that employees were diagnosised.

Good Company

This was a very good company in which to work. Unfortunately the business elected to relocate its manufacturing operations to Juarez, Mexico. It was a sad time.

Help people considering your employer make a good choice.

I enjoyed the innovative instrumentation for the automation, learned a lot of troubleshooting skills there.

TCE/RCA was a dying company due to the advance technology in the TV industry. Since it was mainly a glass plant for the TV tubes, it was difficult for them to convert the plant to the newer technology. All in all it was a great life experience. With the abundance of overtime, it provided a lucrative lifestyle.

Pros

Lots of overtime

Cons

Rotating 8 hour shift work

Great Place

I would still be there today if they switched to LCD televisions, but they did not. They switched owners so many times that the newest did not change with the times was the demise of the company as a whole.

Pros

Many

Cons

Hot

overtime available

I ran a sealer. I learned some components of a t.v. Hardest part was lifting 70 pound tubes every 9 seconds. most enjoyable was that the job was done.

Pros

job support

Cons

hot, heavy lifting

Great co-workers

This was my first experience with a company leaving the United States to get cheaper labor in China. Many families work there, including many husband & wife, sons, and daughters all on the same shift. This company had provided for many generations in Marion,In. It was heart breaking to see the lives devastated when the entire families were suddenly with work and more importantly without pay.

Pros

Pay and co-workers

Cons

Greed for profits

Enjoyed perks of receiving RCA products at a discount and as rewards for job well done

Company was a good place to work; very family friendly. Developed and maintained good working rapport with internal and external personnel, customer service and logistics.

Pros

Longivity and opportunity for advancement

This was my first job in USA. It was a contract, I lived working for this company on a project that was exciting. I worked independently although I was required to be at work 9 -5.

Company is out of Business

It was fun working at this place but job security makes it difficult for workers to stay long. The company ultimately went out pf Business.

No job security.

My first job after graduation with my BS.

The sky was the limit in terms of promotion paths and the variety of areas of responsibility that were available. I learned a lot and are thankful even today.

Pros

Promotion opportunity.

Cons

Nothing comes to mind.

Great place to work

I initially started this job as an assembler. Worked my way up to assembly set-up, followed by incoming inspector and plant team trainer, and finally to supervisor. As supervisor the day started by assigning team members to daily positions. Other responsibilities included training when needed and assuring each line made their daily quota and adhering to quality standards. At times this included helping load trucks or working on equipment. The best part of the job was when the day went by with minimal problems. We had great co-workers and management. The most difficult part of the job was when the plant closed and moved to Mexico.

Pros

Company paid education

Cons

The move to Mexico

Corporate Headquarters for Thomson (RCA)

This was once a huge manufacturing facility for some of the first color televisions. It hustled and bustled at one point. While I worked there, it was only a research facility and functioned as US headquarters for other manufacturing sites.

Pros

Had an opportunity to work with many intelligent people with doctorates, very down to earth people, traveled to US factories and Mexico, management was very good, rewarding work

Cons

technology was becoming obsolete over time and being replaced, No jobs to return to after upstarting the Mexico factory.

Productive, fun place to work. Great morale and culture.

My typical day at Thomson was taking over for the previous shift employees so they could go home. I ran a machine called an aluminizer with 4 other co-workers. We placed the glass screen television cap on a rubber seal station. The carousel of stations went around and aluminum pellets would flash inside the cap coating the screen cap with aluminum residue. That was just one of many jobs I grew accustomed to performing at Thomson.

Pros

long breaks, great pay, excellent morale, great culture.

Cons

strenuous work, i.e. heavy lifting, repetitive.

Great place to work with plenty of overtime.

Most of the time handled heavy picture tubes moving from line to line. Learned many things about electric circuitry. Great supervision and management. Fun co-workers that took care of business. Work was easy to get use to and had some jobs that could be bid on.

Pros

Could change some jobs.

Cons

Nothing

Miss this Job

Depending on the shift I was on since we worked rotating shifts. I would do my daily job responsibilities requested from my supervisor. we usually had a brief meeting to find out what was going on the previous shift which was helpful in looking for defects. I loved the people I worked with we were like family since we spent a lot of time together. management was good the only thing I didn't care for was the number game. But I always gave my all in what was asked of me.

Pros

having 5 days off in a row .

Cons

working swing shift
